Latest Update November 2016 The insurance of catholic school buildings has been the subject of much discussion in recent years. There is an inconsistency in the level of cover provided by each of the 13 local authorities in the diocesan area. At present, the perils covered by school insurance policies are inconsistent with some headteachers and governing bodies not being aware of ‘uninsured’ risks (for example the escape of water.) There is also inconsistency between some local authorities providing 100% buildings cover and some local authorities providing 90% cover with DE Ford providing 10% top up cover for all Voluntary Aided schools.
The Diocesan Education Service is currently reviewing school building insurance provision further details being available in due course. The review includes both Voluntary Aided Schools and Academies.
