Diocesan Directives issued by the Diocesan Bishop for the

General Regulation of all Catholic Schools in the

Archdiocese of Birmingham pursuant to canon 806

BDES Newsletter May 2022

Friday 6th May 2022

Dear Headteachers, Governors and Directors,

As you are aware His Grace, the Archbishop has issued directives concerning the general regulation of all Catholic schools in his diocese. It is expected that schools respond generously to the Diocesan initiatives and co-operate by actively and constructively engaging with them. A copy of the Diocesan Directives and an explanation for the Diocesan Directives accompanies this letter.

The Directives will form part of the canon law and will have binding force on all Catholic schools, including those which are not in diocesan trusteeship one month from promulgation.

In addition, a proforma has also been developed to assist schools in their communication with the Archbishop and schools should return this to the DES immediately following the last Governing Board meeting of the academic year, at which the response has been approved, but no later than the 8th July.  . The proforma will require all governing bodies or boards of directors to confirm as the employer that their school complies with the directives.  Please follow this link to confirm compliance with the directives: http://w.pfrms.co/rt134hzt

A further document, personalised for each school, entitled ‘the occupancy agreement’ will be issued to schools in the next couple of weeks. Details concerning this document will follow.
Documents accompanying this email:
  • Decree from the Archbishop
  • The Diocesan Directives
  • The Diocesan Directives Explanation
  • The Compliance Pro-form (link in the body of the email)

Please do not hesitate to contact any of the Deputy Directors for advice or support concerning this matter.

Yours sincerely
