The Archdiocese of Birmingham Education Service - About the DES

The new service has been created through the merging of the Diocesan Religious Education department and the Birmingham Diocesan Schools Commission. The Director is the Rev Fr Jonathan Veasey. We are based at Don Bosco House in Coleshill, Warwickshire.

The work of the service is twofold: Firstly, on behalf of the Archbishop of Birmingham and the Diocesan Trustees our role is to implement, maintain, monitor, evaluate and review Diocesan Education Policy in keeping with the Trust Deed, and fulfil the requirements of Canon Law in relation to Catholic schools. The other key aspect of our work is to support and develop the Catholic Education of young people in our schools across the diocese. As such, we have a team of advisors and a detailed programme of training and support for teachers in all our schools and those who are responsible for Catholic Children.
